BECAUSE EVERYBODY NEEDS A LITTLE DISTRACTION
Design and Distractions. Life is full of them.
Design is on everything you see and touch. Even your remote control, or that water bottle sitting on your desk. Someone not only created those items, but had to make them look good too. I happen to thrive on design. Since design is clearly such a huge part of our lives, I find that my purpose in life, is to use design as a tool to distract. If just one design could brighten a persons day, move a group of people into action against a threat however small or large, give someone a visual break from the mundane everyday visions they pass on the street, or the bulletin board at work, then I'd say it has done its job. How often does this really happen though? Walking down the street in a city you might see hundreds of posters, ads, banners, signs, etc. Do you notice even one of them when you're walking down the street? Most people probably don't notice most of them. That's because their design doesn't distract the audience away from their hurried walk to work in the morning. There's always going to be that one ad, poster, or sign though, that does grab the average person's attention. It could be the bright colors, or the swirling pattern, or even just the big bold headline that grabs them. This is what design is about. Knowing your audience, knowing what they want and/or need, distracting people in this way is my purpose in life.
